Website Launch Checklist

A 28-point pre-launch checklist covering content, technical setup, SEO, performance, security, and analytics. Make sure your new site goes live clean — not with broken links, missing SSL, or no analytics.

28 checkpoints ~45 min to complete Updated 2026-07-08

Content

  • Proofread every page Read every page aloud. Check spelling, grammar, phone numbers, email addresses, and business hours. One typo on a contact page can cost a lead.
  • Verify contact information Phone, email, physical address, and hours must match your Google Business Profile exactly. Inconsistent NAP (name, address, phone) hurts local SEO.
  • Write unique page descriptions Each page needs its own meta description (150-160 characters). Do not duplicate the homepage description across all pages.
  • Check all internal links Click every link. Broken internal links look unprofessional and waste crawl budget. Use a free link checker or click manually on a small site.
  • Add a clear call-to-action on every page Every page should tell the visitor what to do next: call, email, book, buy, or read more. No page should be a dead end.

Technical

  • Install an SSL certificate Your site must load over HTTPS. Most hosts provide free Let's Encrypt certificates. Browsers flag non-HTTPS sites as "Not Secure," which kills trust.
  • Set up 301 redirects for old URLs If you are migrating from an old site, map every old URL to its new equivalent with a 301 redirect. Do not rely on the homepage catch-all — you will lose SEO equity.
  • Submit XML sitemap to Google Search Console Generate a sitemap.xml (most CMS platforms do this automatically) and submit it in Google Search Console. This tells Google what to index.
  • Check robots.txt Make sure robots.txt is not accidentally blocking important pages. A misconfigured robots.txt can hide your entire site from search engines.
  • Test on mobile devices Open your site on an actual phone, not just browser dev tools. Check that text is readable, buttons are tappable, and nothing overflows horizontally.
  • Test in multiple browsers Check Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Safari on iOS is the most common source of layout bugs that do not appear in Chrome.

FAQ

How do I use this checklist?

Work through each category in order. Content first, then technical setup, then SEO, performance, security, and analytics. Each item is a single action you can check off. If an item does not apply to your site (e.g. you have no blog), skip it.

Do I need technical knowledge to complete it?

Most items are written for non-technical owners. A few technical items (like setting up redirects or configuring CSP headers) may require help from your developer or hosting provider. If you get stuck, Seth Brand Tech Care offers a $99 Tech Care Audit that covers all of this for you.

Is this checklist really free?
